IMPORTANT: Various jobs need doing and you, yes you, might be perfect for them :D!
And so I finally return to the big-ass post I made before my trip that the forum kindly ate for me (I did not know the forum ate posts that you'd been writing a while like eRep used to, or at least it does for me, and when clicking 'back' I got nowhere. Which was nice )
Anyway this is going to get a little lengthy but I'd like you to stick with it as it's important. For what it's worth there's money hidden in this article (check mah cryptic) Thanks!
As most of you will know I am currently a Major within the TCO, with my specific responsibilities being as Second-in-Charge of the Academy and as the PR Officer now that capataincy of the two Irish legions has been handed over. The Academy job I slipped right into nice and neatly but the more I've analysed the PR job - and I really do break these things down before I leap on them - the more I realised just how much I percieve to be involved in doing that job right. It's not an easy task to follow Damien *Ice, Ice, Baby* Wolf *Ice, Ice, Baby* Wolf *Ice, Ice, Baby* Wolf *Ice, Ice, Baby* Wolf into anything, that man being a total Legend and all, but I finally think I've worked out how to go about this thing.
I've already appointed myself abitch sort of right hand man in Caladbolg but now I need you.
Yes, you.
I'm not exactly ripping up the old list of PR people and volunteers but I am asking those involved to re-commit here. A couple have left, a couple have joined but didn't make it to the user list I think etc. I just want to be clear on who I have and where I have them, I also want to see who'd like to join the group for the first time, and here are the jobs that will need doing (you can put your name in for one, some or all of them, depending on where your interest is and what time you can commit):
Do You Have Foreign Citz?
By foreign I mean not eAus or eCan. Particularly if you're intending to keep your foreign citz. Reply here with where your citz is and if you currently have a paper. I may need you to post articles that show up in your citz country (which you wouldn't nessecarily have to write yourself).
Voters
Simplest of the actual job-jobs first, and I'm not talking about elections. If you're willing to join a new mailing list where you will recieve a forum PM with a list of articles to vote on, probably pretty regularly, and then go to those articles and vote each one up then please reply to this post. The articles will be TCO related only (no personal pimping for members unless their article is very heavily pro-TCO or a TCO instigated article in the first place). You really will only be asked to open the article and vote it, though reading it and commenting is nice too :p
Mentors
This is for the Academy. When a new cit joins TCO (new to TCO, more than new to eRep, but sometimes they are both) it's nice to have someone to contact them and help them through the Academy process. It's not too hard, and many won't need their mentor, but you might need to answer a question or two or need to be able to direct them to someone who can help adapt their avatar, or employ them etc. The Devils are shit hot at this from what I gather but we Canucks are dragging some. That said volunteers from both divisions are happily accepted. Make sure to state in your reply to this post which division you are - I may do some of the compiling from my phone and the less scrolling I have to do the better lol.
Lesson Updaters
Eric's been doing a lot of work on updating the current Academy lessons to reflect changes in game but it'd be nice to have a couple more people willing to keep an eye on them too, plus maybe suggesting and writing other lessons that might be useful, or 'advanced' lessons that might not form part of the induction process but instead serve as helpful explanatory guides in case members had difficulty with an aspect of the game or of TCO. This might not involve doing much all that regularly but it is an important thing to have right.
Article Writers
Firstly I would like to get a few 'standard' articles on file, a bit like Cris *liar, liar, pants on* fire has had a standard piece of text that has appeared on most of his articles on the official paper. These articles should explain either what the TCO is, what it does, how badass it is, how friendly it is or whatever from the POV of explaining to someone who's never heard of us before. Most of the work for this already exists on cris' papers but I would like someone to go through and check if any of that needs updating (which last I checked it didn't) and then suggest anything that might be missing from there etc. I don't mind if these articles mention things already present in each other, I'm just looking for a bit of variation between them so we're not getting the same thing posted each time we launch a recruitment article.
Secondly I need a more regular list of people willing to write articles about TCO. These might be about big battles we've helped in/won (like the stuff going on in Aussie and Ireland right now), they might profile one of the execs, or interview one of our soldiers, or talk about one of the legions, or encourage recruitment. These articles should be fresh, shiny, new and current and I'm hoping to put out at least two weekly in both eCan and Aus. Ideally it'd be three-four a week so that one is always in that country's top five articles but let's start simple and see where we go. I might suggest the content ('I don't suppose you'd like to interview Homer?' or 'I don't suppose you want to point out how much ass we kicked when taking London?') but the actual writing will be all on you. Both Don't worry if your English is a little weak as Caladbolg and I are happy to proof-read and edit for you if you need. When the article's posted you will need to make sure that he or I gets the link right away or you might miss out on being on the voted list. You don't have to own your own paper to do this, btw, as I don't mind putting stuff out and I know others wouldn't either. If you're up for this please let me know how much notice you'd need to put an article together - be it a day, a week or a couple of weeks. I want to spread the job out pretty evenly and that information will be helpful to get me to do it.
Proof-readers/Editors
If you're willing to check over someone else's article for spelling mistakes etc. please let me know. Cal and I are willing but back up's never a bad thing
Posters
If you have a paper you don't mind posting pro-TCO articles in also please let me know. It's kind of nice not to see the same names on the top all the time and the official paper is now gone with the dissolution of the orgs. I can post them all if it comes to it but spreading the love is better.
Recruiters
This can be as involved as you like but I would like you to check in from time to time and let me know how it's going. You can friend up a bunch of new people and shout TCO articles, comment on them, go around PMing newer or un-affiliated players to point them our way - however works best for you (I tend to pounce on noobs I see commenting on articles though that's harder now the media module has changed). Just get the word out, get targetting and get luring I will see you're doing an especially good job when 'recuited by:....' in the enlistment thread is followed by your name ;-)
If you're willing to join Janos 'flash recruiting' programme, where by specific newbs are targetted for friendship and luring, please also let me know here.
Artists
Left to me poor Eric Last would never sleep, as I pick on him as my personal graphics go to boy, and Toad and Shakyl among many others have certainly done their part for the art too. If you're a bit handy with an art programme, be it PS, PSP or Gimp or whatever, and are willing to make TCO images please let me know here.
Or, if you don't want to commit to this but have a couple of ideas for art work please feel free to put them together and PM me with them. One off contributions are also welcome.
Donaters
Not really part of my remit but I'm sneaking it in here. We do pretty damned well self-supplying and via our funding and the communes but it never hurts to pad the bottom line. If you find you're sitting on a mountain of food or weaps or gold or whatever and could spare a little to the group contact the exec who runs the company you work at and mention what you'd be willing to donate. If they're not the person who reals with the particular thing you've got on offer they'll point you in the right direction.
I'm also a little interested in finding out which of our members are fluent in languages other than English, and what those languages are. Just in case we decide to branch into translating our articles ;-)
Thanks for sticking with this, it's much appreciated!
Major Ein "Donut" Berliner o7
P.S - As for the money? I have 10g right here I'm going to give away to one of our volunteers, chosen at random from those who start to turn in work once all this is up and running. I may make that a monthly or fortnightly thing ;-)

Things I'm willing to help out with:
Voting
Mentoring
Proof-reading
Maybe even writing articles every once in a while? I feel like I might be too long-winded for that, though. We don't want people falling asleep in the middle - or, you know, the beginning, lol.
I asked Homer about mentoring before, but he seemed to think I already had enough on my plate. I don't mind giving it a shot, though - if it ends up being too much I can always just step away from it. Of course, if you also think that mentoring, or any of the above for that matter, would be too much, that's fine - just letting you know what I'm willing to do.
Things I'll keep doing:
Lessons
Graphics
I've been meaning to work on that Community Tab lesson, but I keep getting sidetracked/forgetting. I'll get to it sooner or later.

I'm willing to help out with voting. I love reading the articles (as long as they're in English) so that would be fun. I'm also pretty good at proofing so would be willing to help out there too.

You can't donate RM, but you can put them up on the market for as cheap as possible. Just make sure to coordinate with someone on IRC so that when you put the RM on the market that they'll be able to get to it before anyone else (well, hopefully, anyway).

Hey there Donut, long time listener, first time caller.
First of all, for voting up articles, we do have a LIST OF MEMBER PAPERS that everyone is encouraged to sub (we should promote this a bit more maybe?), and, we do have A PLACE TO POST ARTICLES TO BE VOTED UP that everyone should be able to see.
Secondly, for mentoring, all TCO members new and old are encouraged to post any queries they may have in this forum. This forum is our home, we are all brothers and sisters, and TCO takes care of their own. If people want someone specific to talk to, they can be directed to me and send me a pm in game, on these forums, or on IRC if I am on. It does not matter which division.
I could help out with the lessons, but, we would probably be better off if I didn’t. I could be something of a substitute substitute teacher.
Writing articles could be fun. I am not the most eloquent writer, but, I do not think that really matters too much in this game. Once I get a bit more free time in real life I may try writing the odd article. This is not a promise so don’t hold me to it.
Just like with the lessons, we would probably be better off if I did not do any editing. But, if I am around and nobody else is willing, I can do some editing.
I do not have a paper; I do not go around friending random people; and, I definitely do not have any artistic talents so forget me for being a poster, recruiter, or artist. We do already have quite a collection of PR IMAGES.
Finally, most of the gold that I have been awarded in this game has gone to this militia; and, most of the gold I will ever receive will be going to this militia.

Re: IMPORTANT: Various jobs need doing and you, yes you, might be perfect for them :D!
I tend to be a grammar Nazi when it comes to posts, I would gladly edit the shit out of any articles you, or anybody else, writes.
Re: IMPORTANT: Various jobs need doing and you, yes you, might be perfect for them :D!
The PR images are awesome, yeah. I've posted there myself and there's a tonne on there I haven't seen used I intend to put into circulation, though a couple may need resizing so erep doesn't sexual congress them up. It'll be nice to encourage the newer members to add some in themselves though, plus we might want to know who our artists for if we need specific stuff doing.
The newspaper list I think is awesome, yeah, and I am totally intending to get that more publicity once this set up stuff is out of the way. I joined it myself when it was first posted but I notice the list is still fairly small, considering our size. Definitely something I intend to do something about.
And that article voting post I do know about, though I don't think it gets much foot traffic. I'm hoping a targetted and specific vote-up mailing list will get the votes on the articles a bit faster as people who volunteer for it will get the list of new articles as soon as they show up.
Thanks for all the input, and for posting those links here (I should have thought to, really, but I kept going back to make sure I hadn't missed any of the jobs lol) and for the offers therein. I'll be honest my eyes are barely open right now (can't flipping sleep) but good stuff, no doubt.

Thanks for all the input, and for posting those links here (I should have thought to, really, but I kept going back to make sure I hadn't missed any of the jobs lol) and for the offers therein. I'll be honest my eyes are barely open right now (can't flipping sleep) but good stuff, no doubt.

Id be happy to help with putting out articles. Ive got a newspaper that can be used any time and will usually appear in Ireland.
Voting, proofing, mentoring...whatever is needed, just ask and if Ive got the time Ill tell you.
